Description

I hope I'm not too late for this
happy Birthday :iconsweetie97:
I hope you'll like this one
it's a little bit of a quicky
I wanted to draw it yesterday, but I fell asleep after work :paranoid:

And this is another picture I experimented a little, especially with hair. I think I like this way of drawing more than the lineart way I've been doing it most of the time. Any thoughts?

I sorta dread this, particular critique as I feel amny will find themselves disagreeing with me, but as a professional (yeah, right <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";P" title="Wink/Razz"/>) I have to be objective. The great are always shun be their generation anyway <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";P" title="Wink/Razz"/>

The concept of this piece is quite... ordinary, so to speak - a unicorn that seems to be unleashing his/her power is quite a common sight among fandom. Not that it's not stunning whenever you see it, it always depends on the author's approach to that vision. Here the job is done nicely through simple means, playing on a consisted whole.

That swirling effect seems strangely similar to the one in your previous work that I commented. After close examination, they're different, yet the feeling itself remains. As said - the concept itself is nothing surprising, which makes one crave for something... more. True, originality plays little part in the impact a piece can have on recipant, yet one cannot disregard it completely.

The technique quite nicely compliments the concept - the lack of background, while a tad off-putting, allows the viewer to concentrate on the center of the piece - the pony (I have a weird feeling its Moondancer) that picks up the winds with her magic. The wind currents nicely wrap around the mare, though one coudl argue that, while they generally seem to be blowing upwards, the hair is pushed to the side. Of course all this can be considered an optic illusion as it's hard to determine the exact course of the air, yet the first impression would likely lead to that.

The impact itself remains strong however, despite the faults - the pony's expression as she concentrates add to the mystical feeling of the pic, while the winds give a great indication of the magic becoming unbound. The small, secluded pool plays a great allusion to a shrine that elevates the energy, almost like it was specifically design for unicorns to use it. The weak ray of light that falls from the sky furthers the arcane feeling, that's both gentle in its presentation and yet strong at the same time with teh currents dancing to break free from the piece.

While I see room for improvement, much of this becomes minor in contrast with effect this piece brings forth in the recipant. A nicely done work with rather simple means makes one appreciate that it's not the flash that makes art art.
